Indigenous Pastoralists: Managing and Restoring Ancestral Lands through Intergenerational Transmission of Knowledge and Self-Governance Practices

This interactive dialogue will take place during COP17, the U.N. Convention to Combat Desertification gathering to be held in Mongolia. Indigenous elders, youth, community representatives, and policymakers will share experiences from diverse territories. It will highlight the following topics:

• Leadership of Indigenous pastoralist and mountain communities in managing and restoring ancestral lands
• Challenges Indigenous pastoralist and mountain communities face, including land access, climate variability, mobility constraints, and the pressures affecting fragile ecosystems
• The importance of intergenerational knowledge transmission and self-governance practices

Speakers will include Indigenous representatives from Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan (WUISP), members of the Gabbra community in Kenya and the Lhoba community in Nepal (Wayfinders Circle), an Indigenous pastoralist representative from Latin America (Pawanka Fund) and a WUISP/Origins youth representative.

This event is organized by the Wayfinders Circle, the World Union of Indigenous Spiritual Practitioners (WUISP), Nia Tero and the Pawanka Fund.
